Ear Plugs
These earplugs are made of pliable foam that can be rolled between the finger and thumb prior to insertion in the ear. Once in place, the earplugs slowly expand to comfortably fill the opening of the ear. They block out about 29 decibels of sound, which does not interfere with the ability
to hear conversational speech at a normal loudness level with a nearby speaker such as a teacher. It does, however, block out some of the background noises that are so distracting for individuals who have difficulty screening out irrelevant sounds.
Arrow Sticky Note Flags
These removable arrow notes are helpful for both students and teachers to mark pages where help is needed. Arrows can be pointed toward specific areas to direct attention to key information or just to flag pages to show where consultation is indicated. Brief messages can be written right on the flags. The arrow notes come in five colors that can be designated for different subjects. The arrow notes are easily removed from most paper surfaces (test first!) and can be reused a number of times. 125 Flags on a clear, clip-on holder

Children who need to move around can sit on a therapy ball and have controlled, limited movement while continuing to work on academic tasks. Children who seek out tactile input can comfortably position themselves on the therapy ball while working, or can gently roll back and forth on the ball to facilitate relaxation. Therapy balls can also be used during breaks from structured tasks to provide indoor exercises such as stretching and improving balance.

Skoosh Animals
Some children are naturally fidgety and full of energy. They are always in motion and doing something with their hands. Unfortunately, oftentimes this activity is loud and distracting, to fellow students, teachers…even themselves! You can spend a lot of time and effort trying to get them to be still and quiet, or you can give them an alternative. These fidget animals provide tactile sensations and an outlet for that surplus energy.
Pencil Topper/Stamper
These are actually self-inking stamps that fit on the end of a pencil. Besides being a fun way to reward good work by putting a stamp on the paper, these toppers add a little extra weight to provide greater tactile input to the hand while helping tip the pencil into the proper position on the hand. This promotes better handwriting and helps children hold the pencil properly while experiencing greater handwriting success.
The Pencil Grip (Soft)
This device promotes a proper grip while reducing the stress on fingers. Hand cramping and “white knuckling” are uncomfortable and interfere with fluent writing. The Pencil Grip is made of a pliable material and slips easily onto a pencil or pen. It promotes a relaxed position for the fingers and hand. The Pencil Grip works equally well for right-handed or left-handed writers.
Stetro Pencil Grip (Hard)
This type of grip is easy to use and helps train the hand to hold the pencil properly. Right-handed writers point the arrow on the grip toward the pencil tip and place the thumb on the star. Left-handed writers point the arrow on the grip toward the tip and place the forefinger on the “star.” The index and middle fingers fit comfortably along the molded groove. A proper grip improves handwriting while reducing muscle discomfort and fatigue.
Squishy Pencil Grip
A favorite with the middle school crowd, this grip is sure to be popular with all ages. Different designs and colors are appealing, while the soft texture accommodates inconspicuous fidgeting and provides sensory feedback.
Weighted Turtle
These cute, individually handmade fabric turtles are filled with pea gravel and weigh between 3½ and 4½ pounds each. When placed on the lap, the deep pressure provides a relaxing sensation while maintaining a constant tactile reminder when it’s time to sit still. If a child stands up, the turtle
begins to slide and the child has an instant nonverbal reminder to remain seated. These turtles promote relaxation and can be enjoyed by children and adults. Each handmade; fabric pattern will vary.
Weighted Kitty
Our Weighted Turtles are a big success, and very popular, but we have had some people asking if they come in larger sizes for their older children. Well, turtles can only grow to be so large, so we are introducing our “lap” cats. All are hand sewn. Weigh approximately 6 pounds. Handmade, fabric color & pattern will vary. (Officially proclaimed “adorable” by our daughters Beckie and Beth!)
Small Weighted Snake
Smaller size for younger kids. Can be draped across shoulders or lap. Two feet long. Filled with two pounds of pea gravel. Handmade, esssssssspecially with you in mind.
Large Weighted Snake
Designed to drape across the neck and shoulders to provide deep muscle pressure, with a calming, soothing effect. Can also lay on the lap. Three feet long; pea gravel filled to weigh approximately 5 pounds. Handmade, fabric color & style will vary.
Considering God’s Creation, Teachers Manual & Student Workbook
A creative in-depth encounter with natural science from a biblical perspective. Adaptable for Second to Seventh Grade. A gigantic 272-page book plus Teacher’s Manual with free audio CD!
Student workbook has tear-out pages for each lesson that can be colored in.
Considering God’s Creation an elementary earth and life science program that was born out of our desire to introduce our own children to the Creator through His creation. We wanted them to have more than just information and facts about the world around them, so that they could make some of the spiritual connections that Jesus so often pointed out in nature. For example, when we study plants and are out working in the garden, it is a perfect opportunity to talk about how God provides for all His creation, to tell the story of the sower and the seeds, to talk about reaping what we sow, and to discuss how we will be known by our fruits.
We also wanted to teach our children to absolutely love science and to become scientist detectives. We wanted them to be able to accurately describe different kinds of plants and to classify them in the appropriate categories.
Each lesson begins with preparation directions . Then the vocabulary words are listed, with the meanings and language roots included. An introduction follows that is to be read aloud. Many of the lessons include a song which covers scientific definitions set to original music, but also have a spiritual application. Then an activity helps the student to further understand the concept. A Bible reading focuses on what God is teaching us about Himself through that particular aspect of creation. Then the children work individually on their notebooks. These pages are designed to be discovery pages, with pop-up windows, books within books, and all sorts of really neat kids stuff. You would then follow up with “Evolution Stumpers”, review questions, and perhaps something from the “Digging Deeper” section.
lessons are done orally with music and activities.
There are actually 36 lessons, but some of the lessons have several parts and can be divided
Can Do Kids Video, set of four on DVD
These videos are a multi-sensory presentation to aid in memorizing math
facts. One DVD now includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and addition. Each comes with Adobe Acrobat files containing teacher’s guide and a booklet file that includes reproducible pages for written drills and practice. Each math fact “family” (0 through 12) has its own song and movement, and the math sentences are shown across the top of the screen as the Can-Do Kids perform. Math vocabulary is also taught throughout the DVD. These videos are appropriate for visual, auditory, and tactile-kinesthetic learners. They are excellent for the child who needs to be in motion, since they can exercise with the videos and work on math facts at the same time. The opening song on each video has the Can-Do Kids singing that they “can do all things through Christ”.
Colored Notebook Paper, Wide ruled
We stumbled across this and found it to be helpful in developing some organizational skills. We use different colored paper for different subjects, so you can tell at a glance what topic is being worked on. Unfortunately, we
haven’t been able to find Colored Notebook paper anywhere (just try!), so we are making it ourselves and offering it to you. Five Pastel colors – canary, blue, pink, green and goldennrod. 250 sheets, 50 of each color
Callirobics for Beginners
Callirobics-for-Beginners is designed to acquaint participants with the basic lines and shapes that are building blocks for writing.
The program is ideal for participants with low-developmental ability or for younger kids who are just starting to experiment with “writing.” Stickers were added to the program to enhance the direction of the writing movements and give the participants an extra activity for fine motor skills. Cathy Bollinger, a children’s singer, wrote and played the music. With her beautiful voice and guitar, she gently leads the participants through the basic writing movements: down, up, across, and around (circle). , workbook and storybook included in each kit.
Callirobics for Ages 4-7
Preparation for printing and cursive writing, sensory integration, individual and group work habits, calm and relaxing exercises for children, improved small-muscle skills and eye-hand coordination.
Children practice patterns to music. In the program for ages 4-7 the patterns are easy, disconnected and geared for printing. There are 11 exercises and each exercise is practiced for only two and a half minutes. The music includes popular children’s melodies.
Callirobics for Ages 7-14
Callirobics Ages 7-14 are a series of simple and enjoyable graphical patterns to be traced by the child while listening to popular melodies. These patterns introduce the basic elements of writing movements in a “stress free” method. Patterns are more advanced, connected and geared for cursive writing. There are ten sessions with two exercises in each session. Each session is practiced for five minutes. We recommend repeating each exercise for a whole week. The music is upbeat for the straight patterns. It is calm and slow for the curved and round patterns.
Callirobics ABC, Learning Letters to Music
Helps the beginner writer recognize the letters of the alphabet through a fun, stimulating, stress-free activity. The program includes illustrations and songs thereby combining visual and auditory learning. The rresistible, and humorous cartoon-like illustrations promote visual recognition of the letters and help to develop the correct writing habits. The songs are short, funny and easy to memorize. They are a powerful tool in providing auditory association with the letters, rhythm, concentration and creativity.
In addition to the program we added a poster with the alphabet letters on one side and illustrations from the book on the other side. There are 28 magnets; one for each letter and two more to hold the poster on any magnetic board. As the students progress they add one letter at a time to the poster. This is a great manipulative aid for students who struggle with handwriting.
Fidget Balloons
Use these helium-strength balloons filled with rice or flour as a quiet fidget toy. We recommend using the balloon in one hand at a time, alternating hands as desired. This not only promotes hand strength and allows for controlled movements, but will extend the life of the fidget balloon by
eliminating the twisting, poking, and pulling that tends to occur when both hands are used together.
Textures: rice (rough) or flour (smooth).
Heads Up! Frame – 4 x 9
Our own creation, these frames are made of transparent colored polycarbonate with a frame printed on. The frames are available in 4” x 4-½” squares or 4″ x 9” rectangles. You can direct attention and focus by placing the frames over workbook pages or other written materials to be examined. The frames block in key material while the color contrast helps maintain attention. These frames are especially useful for marking the place on the page for individuals who tend to look away from the page frequently. When looking back at the page they can easily and quickly find the framed-in area. These frames are also useful for the child who feels overwhelmed when viewing an entire page, since the teacher can frame in just a section of the page so that it appears more manageable to the child. Available in the following colors: yellow, pink, blue, red, green, and orange.

It is also extremely useful in helping children who have difficulty transitioning to new activities, since the children can tell at a glance how much time remains before a change in activity will occur. Seeing Clearly, Hickman & Hutchins
Developing healthy visual-motor abilities is more difficult in the complex stimulus of today’s world than ever before. Our visual experiences can be overwhelmed by the vast complexity of artificial colors and sounds which did not exist in our ancestors’ lives.
Much more time is spent indoors, exposed to a myriad of unnatural colors, movement and imagery. We hibernate inside, interacting with machines instead of being out in the sunlight, looking at the far horizons, exploring natural environments. More and more time is spent sitting rather than moving, watching rather than doing. Here is a book that has:
An overview of the development of vision, with a checklist of warning signs of vision problems-based on the studies of behavioral optometry
A discussion of the importance of integrating all the senses equally in the development of optimal visual skills, rooted in the field of occupational therapy
Practical, playful activities designed to improve visual skills in both adults and children. Excellent for use at home, in the clinic, at school, or amid outdoor settings

Visual Strategies for Improving Communications, L Hodgdon
This book is a collection of practical ideas and techniques: how some educators have taken sound theory and research, added a
dash of creative experimenting, and translated it into meaningful training and programming tools for students who experience
moderate to severe communication disabilities.
When we take on the task of working with students who learn differently, our most familiar teaching strategies and goals are put
to the test. Students can learn. The question is what and how. Our responsibility as professionals or parents is, in part, one of
“discovering” them. Most importantly, we need to discover how he learns; how she understands. That is the key …. to determine
what is inside, hidden behind a veil of behaviors and perceptual handicaps, and to discover how to reach it effectively. This discovery
process has revealed a large group of students who understand what they see better than what they hear.
It is through this discovery process that the concept of using Visually Supported Communication or Visually Mediated Communication
strategies has evolved and developed. Success has built upon success. As one student or teacher has benefited from one idea,
the challenge has been to develop a second and a third. Over a period of several years the results have been dramatic. Testimonials
from school staff and parents have supported the direction enthusiastically.
Do-Watch-Listen-Say, K Quill
This comprehensive intervention guide and accompanying activities are easily adapted to develop a curriculum for both children
who are verbal and those who use augmentative and alternative communication, and it can be implemented at home or in the
classroom. Excellent for educators and speech language pathologists, this practical, user-friendly resource gives you the methods
you need to build social and communication skills in children with autism.

Suspect there’s something “different” about your child? This book will help you navigate those early stages of your child’s life when a diagnosis is nowhere in sight and you’re either totally frustrated or frightened into inaction by a vision of what may lie ahead. Written by a mother who knows–because she had an uncanny ability to avoid her son’s diagnosis–this book humorously and gently prods parents into action, beginning with the chapter “Was That the Exit to ‘Normal?” and “Rules of the Road,” to “Time to Take Off the Gloves” and “To School or Not to School.”

Kids Express Train, Imitation Station
This CD focuses on imitation at a very basic level including noises, consonant-vowels structures, single words, and
simple phrases. All songs contain the phrase, “Your turn” to give children the cue of when to imitate the words. Imitation
Station has excellent speech practice for children slightly below or above the single word level. It gives children
repetition of words many times during each song. Repetition is the key focus of this CD. Holds 13 songs
Kids Express Train, Vocalocomotion
This CD is uniquely different from the others as it has no singing. Every song is done with rhythm and instrumental
but in a speaking-rap style. It focuses on consonant-vowel imitation, single words, and simple phrases, just as Imitation
Station does, but some children may have an easier time practicing word and phrase imitation when it does not
involve singing. This CD also includes the phrase, “Your turn” to cue the children when to imitate. Holds 10 songs.
Kids Express Train, Conversation Station
This CD is packed with many simple consonant-vowel and single word practices, but it also contains more complex verbal exercises for children at the multi-syllabic word and phrase level. Other songs on this CD challenge children to understand and answer questions and make comments.
Conversation Station combines imitation practice with conversation. We eliminated the phrase, “Your turn” from this collection of songs to help children imitate without becoming cue-dependent. The conversation in these songs can be modeled during natural routines. The old favorite, Ring Around the Rosie is included in this CD, but has been re-written (Round We Go) to make it verbally within a child’s ability to sing. Holds 12 songs
Kids Express Train, Rocking & Talking
We chose these rock and roll songs (like “ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK ” or “ROCKIN’ ROBIN”) for their transformability into fun kids’ songs with kid-friendly lyrics. The goals vary for each song from simple consonant-vowel repetition, to answering WH questions, to learning the sequence and vocabulary of daily routines. Endless possibilities!
We went through the painstaking process of securing permission to adapt the lyrics of these treasured songs to help our treasured children learn. The writers and publishers of these songs were responsive to our requests and applauded this project. We couldn’t be more thrilled about this product.. Holds 12 songs
Kids Express Train, Drills on Wheels 1
Upbeat and catchy collection of simple songs, packed with imitation practice and sound blending. Excellent for any child needing speech practice – especially focuses on children with apraxia and/or phonological disorders. Each song emphasizes a particular speech sound and blends those sounds in a variety of ways including chains of sounds, consonant-vowels, words, and simple phrases. Includes practice of the following sounds: vowels, h, m, w, t, d, n, k, f, s, sh, ch, and j. The phrase “your turn” is often included to give children cues. Contains 12 songs.

Initiations and Interactions : Early Intervention Techniques for Children with ASD; Teresa A. Cardon
Research suggests an early start is the key to a successful intervention for children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. What many don’t know is that research also shows that for most early intervention programs to be effective, they must involve a child’s primary caregivers, especially when it comes to such an all-pervasive area as communication. This book does not advocate that parents steer clear of therapists and specialists. Instead, it attempts to put more control in the parents’ hands.
Without adding to parents’ already busy schedules, Teresa Cardon, a speech language pathologist and author of best-selling Let’s Talk Emotions,
discusses the importance of creating a communication environment in the home. Simple everyday tools include deliberate use of books, toys, visual schedules, and labeling, among others.
If your child is currently receiving several therapies, or if you are trying on your own to help encourage and foster communication interactions
with your child, take the tools you find helpful in this book and make sure that a “family-centered” approach is part of your weekly regime.

Children and youth with Asperger Syndrome, high-functioning autism (HFA), and pervasive developmental disorders-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS), and related exceptionalities have great potential, but all too often their abilities are not realized. Simple Strategies that Work! provides ideas and suggestions that teachers can use to help a student with AS/HFA on the road to success. The book discusses problems that arise in the classroom and how teachers can adjust the classroom to accommodate, while not interfering with normal classroom routines. Not bogged down with jargon, the book includes tables and boxes for quick reference and clear meaning.
Also included is information on what can cause anxiety for the AS/HFA student, how this can lead to decreased academic and social performance, decreased attention to task, and potential increases in behavior problems, and what the teacher can do to assist.
Hidden Curriculum : Practical Solutions for Understanding Unstated Rules in Social Situations; B Smith Myles, M L. Trautman, R L. Schelvan

Given the serious consequences that can befall a person who violates a social rule, the strategies and detailed lists of curriculum items make this a much-needed resource.
Social Skills Training; Jed E. Baker
In this comprehensive and user-friendly book, the author translates years of experience working with students with Asperger Syndrome and social-communication difficulties. The essence of this must-have resource: 70 of the skills that most commonly cause difficulty for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and social-communication problems.
